About the Principal

Ms. LaTrice Stokes, Principal
Brightwood Elementary School

Ms. LaTrice Stokes proudly serves as the principal of Brightwood Elementary School and is entering her ninth year in this role. With over 25 years of experience in public education, Ms. Stokes brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and commitment to student success. Her educational journey has included serving as an elementary teacher, curriculum facilitator, and assistant principal at both the elementary and middle school levels.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in the small town of Rose Hill, North Carolina, Ms. Stokes credits her upbringing—and her late parents, LaVern and Linwood Stokes and family —for instilling in her the values of perseverance, service, and a deep love for education.

She is a proud two-time graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Elementary Education. She later earned a Master of School Administration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Ms. Stokes is a devoted member of Destiny Christian Center in Greensboro, NC, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated and Successful Women Around the Globe. She is passionate about inspiring, empowering, and nurturing students while also supporting the growth of teachers and families.

Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her daughter LaVerne, her great-nephew Wyatt, and her two beloved dogs, Oreo and Optimus. She also finds joy in traveling, shopping, and making memories with her family and friends.

Ms. Stokes leads with heart and vision, believing that strong relationships, high expectations, and a shared commitment to excellence are the foundation of a thriving school community.

AP Vicky Fowler

About the AP

Mrs. Vicky Fowler, Assistant Principal
Brightwood Elementary School

Mrs. Vicky Fowler is a proud to serve as Assistant Principal at Brightwood Elementary and is entering her third year in this role. She holds a Master’s degree in School Administration from Appalachian State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Greensboro College. Vicky is also certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Her extensive experience includes working as a K-5 Physical Education Specialist at Morehead Elementary, where she was a key member of the school community from 2008 to 2021. Vicky has also contributed to various leadership roles, including chairing the PBIS committee, coordinating service learning, hosting student teachers, and serving as a webmaster.

In addition to her administrative duties, Vicky has a passion for coaching, having led volleyball teams at Kernodle Middle and Northern High, and coached softball and volleyball at Southern Middle. Her commitment to student development extends beyond the classroom through her involvement in numerous after-school programs and events, such as the “Go Out For A Run” program, Sport Stacking, and the annual PE Dance for Heart. 

Mr. Fowler's excellence in education has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Guilford County PTA Outstanding Elementary School Educator Award (2021), the Guilford County PTA Silas Abraham Outstanding Elementary Educator Award (2014), and the NCAAHPERD Edgar W. Hooks Jr. Young Professional Award (2011). She was also named Morehead Teacher of the Year (2010-2011) and received several accolades during her time at Greensboro College, including NASPE Outstanding Major of the Year (2007) and Greensboro College Student Teacher of the Year (2007).

Outside of school, she enjoys reading and listening to audiobooks, going to Sunset Beach, thrifting, having family game/puzzle time, playing NY times Connections & Strands, and spending time with her family. 

Mrs. Fowler has a passion for building relationships with students, staff, and parents at Brightwood. She strives to be out in the hallways of Brightwood to assist students and teachers so that together, we can reach our individual, class and school goals.
