Battle of the Books Information

What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is a quiz bowl style competition sponsored by The North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA) and held locally by Guilford County Schools Department of Library Media Services.

Students across the state read books from a list selected by NCSLMA. In March, Guilford County Schools holds a district-wide competition where students answer specific, detailed questions about the books.

Battle of the Books is open to all students in grades 4 and 5.

Details and regulations are available at ncslma.org/ebob.

How do I get to participate in BOB?

Students in the program will read as many books as possible from the list of 15 books and will take a test on the books in December. Points will be awarded for attendance and assignments at Battle of the Books Club meetings as well as correct test answers. The 12 students with the most points will be our 2024 BOB Team!

How do I increase my chances of being on the BOB team?

The questions at the EBOB competition are very detailed and specific. The best way to prepare for the competition is to read all 15 books over the summer and then to re-read the books. Many of the books are available on our e-book shelf on Destiny Discover.
